Tuesday, June 22. 2010Briana's last indoor soccer game
Briana had her last indoor soccer game of the season. They ended well as they won the game and Briana scored two more goals. She seemed to try to follow her teammates shots and got two in on the rebound. It was fun to watch as she got two goals in each of the last two games and they won both of them. The whole team looked tired with Briana looking pretty slow towards the end. The other team scored to tie the score with about 3 minutes left but our team had enough energy to put a good run and put a bunch of shots together with Briana getting the game winner on a rebound from her teammates shots. I hope she can keep the more aggressive play going when the outdoor season starts.
Monday, June 21. 2010Steven's first indoor soccer game
Steven had his first indoor soccer game this past Saturday playing on his friends team. The team consists of a couple of players from his friends competitive team along with some other players from their recreational league plus Steven. Steven's friend is pretty good. Unfortunately, the team that they played was not the best so the competition was pretty small. I saw one of the other teams play and they should provide a little more competition. Steven scored 4 goals and missed a bunch of others. He had a few good passes as well. We'll see how he plays once he settles in with this team.
Thursday, June 17. 2010Briana's Indoor Soccer
Briana had her 7th indoor soccer game yesterday with one more to go. Two nights before she had a dream that she scored a goal (she hasn't scored on her competitive team yet). She got her first and second goals ever yesterday on her competitive team. She just missed a third. I was glad to see her do it as she wasn't to sure that she could before that. She just doesn't have the confidence on the field like Steven and Alex have but hopefully she has some now.
Steven starts his indoor league with a friend from school this weekend. This will be interesting because his friend is on a different club and plays on the competitive team. Steven has only played rec and I didn't put him onto the competitive team because they still don't have a coach assigned for his age group. He should do really good as indoor suits his game. Alex's football team has been doing a weekly passing league. It is offensive skill position players against defensive skill position players with no linemen so it is basically 6 on 6. He had a couple of interceptions returned for touchdowns the last time. They just play in t-shirts and shorts with no pads so he comes home with an assortment of scratches which he likes as he wants to get scars, go figure. Saturday, March 6. 2010More Soccer
Briana had one soccer game and Steven had two, one regular and one a rain out make up game.
Briana's team was tied for first place in their division with the team which they played this morning. They won which means they won their division and get to move up a division next season. Briana played well. Her main position is what they call a stopper. She has some speed which helps out on the defensive side of the ball. She has good field vision and passing which helps out on the offensive side of things. She made a killer cross early but our forward just missed it. If she could only get a tougher mentality then she would be way way better player than what she currently does. This is where she could use some of Alex and Steven to rub off on her to be a little more aggressive. But then that isn't who she is. Steven played what has become his usual game. He has speed to match Briana but has the boy mentality to put it to good use. He scored 5 goals in the first game and 3 goals in the second game. It would have been much more but our coach always has to pull our players in so the score doesn't get way out of hand. This team Steven is on is pretty stacked. I felt bad for one of the kids on the team who is really good but he wasn't allowed to strike the ball like he can as the score was pretty lopsided. Steven would be unstoppable if he could strike the ball like his teammate can. They are going to move up in age and play against the bigger and older kids next season. Then we'll see how well he can pass the ball. Alex is lifting weights for football. He has a problem where he is getting physically out of balance. That comes from doing heavy spot weight lifting but not doing enough of the whole body. This is leading to shoulder problems and other issues. He also doesn't stretch out like he should. I gave him some stretches to try and I think his coach is trying to get him to do a more balanced workout now. It will take a while to get into a more balanced routine though. I'll post a video of Steven's last game after I get it edited. It was pretty sunny today so I'm not so sure how it came out. We went down to Tucson for the Fort Lowell Shootout soccer tournament for Briana's team from 1/15-1/17. They had a parade on Friday night, two games on Saturday, skills event Saturday night, and ended with one game on Sunday. They won all of their games and won their division. Briana came in third place for juggling which was pretty good as she didn't practice to much except right before the competition. Her team played one of their better games the second Saturday game which they won 1-0.
Here are some photos of Briana and her teammates, mostly from the events and not the games (I taped those). Photos Sunday, January 3. 2010Snow
We made a start of the new year trip to the snow with the Hernandez family. We went up on Friday morning and came back on Saturday. The kids had a fun trip playing in the snow though all of my kids got cold feet as they didn't have snow boots but just regular shoes. Everyone went down on the sleds except for Sonia who was to chicken. Jason and Alex had to jump out of the way from getting hit by one of the small kids coming down. One of the parents told Alex he had to watch out for the little kids as some of them were fast, especially two kids. He pointed one kid out and said there was another one that comes down really fast. He then said "look, here he comes". Alex looked and said "That's my brother" as Steven came sliding down. It was pretty funny. We then drove to the Grand Canyon park to watch the iMax movie about the Grand Canyon. After that we came home. I'll post the pictures when I get them off my camera.
Sunday, January 3. 2010Alex's Football Game
Alex's football team (Mesa High) made it to the state finals which we went and saw. He doesn't get any playing time as he is a junior but we wanted to see the game anyways. The game was held in University of Phoenix Stadium which is the home stadium of the Arizona Cardinals. They got to use the real locker rooms used by the NFL players. It was pretty cool seeing him out there warming up on a real NFL field. They held their own in the first half but were blown out in the second half and lost 0-35. I'll post some pictures shortly.
Monday, November 23. 2009Mom's Soccer Turkey Cup
Sonia played goalie for the moms from Briana's team in a soccer match up against the other moms from other teams last Thursday (11-19-2009) in what they call the Turkey Cup. There were 6 mom teams and she played 3 games with her team coming in 4th. 3 of her teammates came out with assorted injuries so they couldn't play every game. Sonia came out with some limping and her ankle was a little swollen where she had the tumor removed from about a month ago. She played good when the action was in close but her reactions were a day late on farther out shots. Most of the dads (and moms) watching liked the part when there was a scrum around the goal and Sonia was on the ground swatting the ball out with her hands surrounded by about 5 players. Sonia got run over one time and I saw another mom go flying back 5 yards on another hit so some of the players were taking it pretty seriously while others were out to have fun.
Saturday, November 14. 2009Briana's GG-01 team picture
Here is a link to Briana's team picture from their first tournament. They came in third place out of four teams but they were moved up a bracket due to a lack of teams in their division. They held their own against the more advanced and older/bigger girls. Briana came up to the arm pits of some of the opponents players.
GG-01 Team Pictures Saturday, November 14. 2009First Entry
I decided to try this blog to see if I would update it more often than the website info. This seems to be a little more convenient.
I added a link to a photo album on the main page. It currently has some photos from Briana's early Thunder Girls Gold 01 (GG-01) team and Steven's fall soccer games.
